Man in Motion

The DT Network’s own Jeff Tiessen, our executive producer, welcomed Canada’s Man in Motion to the Active Living conference at Variety Village (two of our host channels) as the keynote speaker this month, and was himself the guest speaker at the Rick Hansen Relay celebrations in his hometown of Leamington. Read his inspiring comments in the Leamington Post.

Twenty-five years ago Canadian hero Rick Hansen had a dream – to make the world more accessible and inclusive, and to find a cure for spinal cord injury. Inspired by a deep-seated belief that anything is possible, Rick’s dream took shape in the form of the Man In Motion World Tour. For 26 months he and his team wheeled over 40,000 km through 34 countries, raising awareness for the potential of people with disabilities.

Since then, Hansen has become a catalyst for unprecedented change in society’s attitudes, improving the quality of life of people with disabilities and building an accessible world.

This year marks the 25th Anniversary of his Man In Motion World Tour and 7,000 “difference makers” are helping him celebrate by carrying his dream into communities all across Canada once again in a Medal Relay. While Hansen continues to pursue his dream - he also looks to the future to find new ways to make a difference in the world. As he charts a course for the future, he continues to lead and inspire a new generation toward an inclusive world.
